Fell November 20, 2008 - H4 Chondrite

Collection No. B190.4  - A 34.77 gram oriented heat-shield recovered by M.Bandli during an expedition in the spring thaw that followed the fall.

This oriented specimen shows some extraordinary features:

1. 360 degree radial flow lines all originate from a single axis. It is apparent that this stone was stabilized during the majority of its luminous/melting phase.

2. Micro meteorite fragments are fused to the trailing edge. A testament to violent and dense  fragmentation.

3. "Crusticles" run around the entire perimeter of the stone.

4. Specimen was found leading edge down (very bottom photo). Coincidence? Or was this stone aerodynamic enough maintain a stable free-fall to earth?
