Historical Notes: Goalpara was found in the jewel collection of the Rajah of Goalpara, which was donated to the Indian Museum in 1868. The 2.7 kilogram oriented stone was recognized as a meteorite that same year,

Though Goalpara is noted as a find, there is some evidence to suggest that it fell around 1867. the meteorite shows little evidence of weathering.
