WILUNA Collection No. B106.3 - a 26.39 gram individual. Provenance: The Western Australian Museum; {...}; by transfer to The Robert Wesel Collection. Specimen Notes: A complete individual with delicate contraction cracks filled with the native orange soil. The red painted number "12934" denotes the Western Australian Museum's assigned number for the Wiluna fall. The second number "95" is the 95th Wiluna meteorite in the Western Australian Museum Collection at the time. Collection No. B106.2 - A 12.03 gram oriented and fresh individual. Provenance: The Western Australian Museum; [...]; by transfer to The R.A. Langheinrich Collection. Specimen Notes: The delicately painted number "12934" denotes The Western Australian Museum's catalogue number for the Wiluna meteorite. This particular stone stabilized briefly during flight, as evident by the "frothy" rim of fusion crust that formed on the trailing edge. The entire stone exhibits coarse contraction cracks as a result of rapid cooling during the transition to dark flight. Specimen is also a very fresh individual that was recovered immediately after the fall. These fresh Wiluna individuals are quite rare, as many of the stones were recovered in the years following the fall. Detail of trailing edge: Frothy pin-hole bubbles from brief stabilization during flight. Collection No. B106.1 - a 6 gram oriented individual. Provenance: The Herb Obodda Collection (#373A.1); by transfer to The R.A. Langheinrich Collection. Specimen Notes: An oriented "nose-cone" with thick roll-over rim on the trailing edge. Specimen was likely a later recovery as evident by some minor oxidation and soil staining. |
